Our History

Orion is founded in 1957 as a vocational school for students with disabilities.

From the beginning, our first responsibility has been to serve our community. It’s not just something we do: it’s written into our company DNA.

Boeing recognizes Orion’s aerospace division.

In 2011, Orion receives the Boeing “Global Supplier of the Year” award, acknowledging our aerospace service’s commitment to excellence. We would win the Boeing award again in 2015 and 2016.

The Puget Sound Business Journal praises Orion innovation.

In 2017, Orion receives the Journal’s Innovation Award for its work innovating in the nonprofit space in the Puget Sound area.

Orion is named “Manufacturing Nonprofit of the Year” — twice.

We won the Seattle Business Magazine title in 2012, and then again in 2018, making us the first repeat recipient in the award’s history.

Orion relocates to Auburn from Federal Way

In March of 2014 Orion builds a new facility with a 100,000-square-foot open floor plan. The location is Orion’s second location and helped them continue to benefit their mission of giving everyone the opportunity to work. Read the full article here

The Microsoft Supplier Program selects Orion for the 2017 MSP Excellence Award, acknowledging Orion’s work in impact sourcing and disability inclusion.
