Jonathan
Jonathan felt that he was on a downward spiral with his jobs; and was struggling with the physical nature of the work. A friend suggested that he go to DVR, and Jonathan was matched with Orion.
Jonathan enjoyed learning the various jobs in Orion's manufacturing training program. He said he had an "A-ha" moment while learning how to use the mill machines. Something clicked into place as he learned the steps to do one part at a time.
Jonathan's progression through the various jobs in the training program opened up cross training opportunities.
Jonathan said, "Orion challenged me in a unique way. I learned to ask questions to make sure that I was doing things the right way. I never realized how quickly I could pick things up. I'm proud of all of the different work areas I learned and the good reviews I received at each job."
Jonathan finished his training and was part of a temp to permanent hire trial. The company that Jonathan was placed with knew that they wanted to hire him, full time, after one week.
When asked if Jonathan has advice for anyone who is new to the Orion training program Jonathan said, "Orion is there for you. The job advisors and mentors work together; you're not just working with one person, you have the support of everyone at Orion."
In his free time, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife and son.

Kevin
joined Orion's training program in December 2015 after working for many years in various production shops. Kevin's career was put on hold five years ago when, in an accident, he partially lost two of his fingers. Kevin said after the accident, he took jobs that were "easy and allowed time to heal," but he realized he missed the challenge and pride he felt from production work. When Kevin heard about Orion, he saw it as a chance to get back to the career he once had.
During his time at Orion, Kevin has found ways to learn and complete his tasks competitively, and has rediscovered his production talents. Despite limits to heavy lifting and writing, he has proven he is ready to go back to a production position. Lavada, his supervisor in Deburr said, "Kevin takes what he does seriously. I like that, and so will any employer!"
At Orion, Kevin has trained in Conventional Machine, Mechanical Assembly, Chaku, Shipping, Part Mark and Hand Assembly. In addition, Kevin has taken Orion's shop math and measuring class, as well as blueprint reading. When asked what he was the most proud of, Kevin indicated that he is most proud of learning to work with precision digital calipers in Chaku, "I never thought I would use something so cool, and it really helped me improve my quality!"
Rick Pudmaroff, one of Kevin's mentors, said, "
Kevin is demonstrating true enthusiasm for the tasks he is learning. He is genuinely interested in learning as much as he can and doing the best that he can. He learns fast and retains what he has learned, and he works hard each and every day!"
Ideally, Kevin would like to find full time employment In the Tacoma or South King County areas, but he is open to any employer that will give him the chance to prove himself.

Orion contracts with companies around the King and Pierce County area to provide classes, such as blueprint reading. Companies can send their staff to Orion for classes at our facility, or we can send our instructors on-site. Orion has been recognized as The Boeing Company's Supplier of the Year in the Corporate Citizenship category.
This is Orion's second Supplier of the Year selection, having received a 2011 Supplier of the Year designation from Boeing in the Outside Manufacturing category.
Orion was one of 12 companies honored at a ceremony on April 13th, 2016, for distinguished performance in working with Boeing, and is part of an elite group among more than 13,000 Boeing suppliers in 47 countries around the world.

Members of Orion's Belters Bowling Team participated in the Sleep Train Foster Kids Pajama Bowl at ACME Bowling in Tukwila on Sunday, April 24th.

Empty Bowl Benefit for Auburn Food Bank

Several Orion staff members participated in the Empty Bowl fund raising event to benefit the Auburn Food Bank on the morning of April 29th.
Extra bowls were selected and delivered to additional Orion staff who made donations but who could not attend the event.
