Branden

"By the time I was on my second day at Ace Hardware, I found that I understood the directions, and didn't need help anymore," Branden explained. "My experience at Orion showed me that I can process information and learn the details of a new job quickly!"

Orion mentors receive training to help them identify the best teaching methods for each individual. The mentors understand that everyone learns in their own way. "Working with a mentor made me feel comfortable when asking for assistance," Branden said. "As I gained experience communicating became easier."

Branden's mentor, Teresita Lopez, said, "I'm proud of the progress Brendan has made. He is quick to learn new tasks. He has shown that he has the ability to swiftly understand work instructions."

While with Orion Branden received training in Mechanical Assembly, Bonding, Inventory, and CNC Mills. Once Branden had completed the training he worked with his Orion Employment Consultant, Haylee Park, who helped him locate a position with Ace Hardware.

"Orion prepared me for my job at Ace Hardware," Branden said. "Orion gave me my first real job experience, which was phenomenal. Through the training program I discovered that I am capable of adapting to different situations, which helped me build the confidence I needed. "

Congratulations Branden!

Fred, Orion Manufacturing Training Program Participant.

Orion's Manufacturing Training Program allows participants to receive on-the-job training while working one-on-one with a mentor.
Participants receive feedback that allows them to improve their capabilities, learning both technical and soft skills, as they gain valuable work experience.

Fred came for a tour of Orion's training program after a friend of the family encouraged him to find out more about our services. "I've been drawing Social Security for a long time," Fred explained. "I was nervous to start, but quickly discovered that I can do more than I thought I could."

While in the training program, Fred has worked in Deburring, Finish Line, and CNC. He has taken classes in Shop Math and Measurements. And Fred also received Orion's Worker of the Month Award for April, 2019.

"Orion's paid training has helped me by giving me access to the work experience I needed. It's a great place to get a new start, with good people to help you, and a good facility. Orion gave me a second chance," Fred related.

Meet a Mentor - Anudeep Kaur

Anudeep Kaur (right), working with Duchuy Bui (left), an Orion Manufacturing Training Program Participant.

Orion's mentors provide a unique approach to helping people gain valuable skills that will help them find long-term employment. Orion's paid training programs allow participants to work one-on-one with a mentor while gaining relevant job experience. The mentors provide instruction in technical skills while also helping participants improve their soft skills.

Anudeep Kaur is a mentor in Orion's Clamp Block Assembly cell. Previously Anudeep was a teacher, and at Orion she uses her experience to help program participants everyday. "Knowledge should be given freely to everyone," Anudeep explained. "If you keep knowledge to yourself it goes nowhere. I have knowledge that I can give to others; I want to share as much as I can and help as many different people as possible."

Orion has resources available that mentors can access, including vocational counselors, instructors and job developers, when working with program participants in the training program. Mentors also receive video and class based training, which provides best practices.

In addition, mentors act as a resource by giving each other insights on methods that have proven successful. "When program participants move from one training area to another the mentors will often touch base to exchange notes and give each other a heads up on what needs to be worked on," Anudeep said. "This really helps program participants get continuity in the help they receive, while learning new skills in another area and being exposed to different supervision styles."

Mentors have the flexibility to adjust the training program to best fit an individual's needs. "I'm willing and able to meet the participants I work with where that are at, halfway, or even more than halfway," Anudeep related. "For example, if someone is having a difficult time following a set of instructions, I can explain it differently and cut it down into smaller pieces, teaching one section of a process at a time. It can be a big challenge, but when you take the time to really explain something, and you see your participant begin to understand, you really feel like you helped them. Seeing all different types of people grow from that point is amazing!"

Thank you Anudeep!
