Manufacturing Training

Jennifer

“I needed a place to start and Orion gave that to me,” Jennifer expressed.

After spending 20 years in an office environment Jennifer’s job came to a close. Her job search was difficult, so she began to consider a career change. Jennifer attended an Orion presentation at her local unemployment office and decided that Orion’s paid training program was what she was looking for. She attended a Manufacturing Training Program tour at Orion’s Auburn location, signed up on the spot, and began the training program the following week.

“I wasn’t sure about a career change,” Jennifer explained. “At this point a career change wasn’t something that I thought I could do. After taking the program tour at Orion my mind was put at ease; it helped me not feel so overwhelmed.”

Jennifer worked one-on-one with a mentor as she built confidence in her abilities and gained hands-on experience. “When I began training in Mechanical Assembly it was so different from the office work I had done in the past that I found it daunting,” Jennifer related. “My mentor demonstrated the correct steps and helped me become familiar with all of the tools and processes. I discovered that building a part was something I could do, and do well!”

Orion’s training gives participants the opportunity to learn new technical skills, and to improve and practice their soft skills. “I have surprised myself!” Jennifer exclaimed. “I have learned to branch out. I have realized that I can do things outside of my original boundaries.”

While learning the technical skills needed to perform a job Orion also taught me how to be part of a team, how to receive constructive feedback, and all of the little things that when added up result in a good employee.

While with Orion, in addition to Mechanical Assembly, Jennifer has received training in Grommets, Packaging, Deburring, Mills and Planning. “I have received on-the-job training and have learned valuable technical skills in several production areas,” Jennifer shared. “But I also learned useful soft skills. While learning the technical skills needed to perform a job Orion also taught me how to be part of a team, how to receive constructive feedback, and all of the little things that when added up result in a good employee.”

Jennifer is hoping to find a data entry or shipping and receiving position in the North Pierce or South King County area. With her experience at Orion she is open to looking at a variety of employment opportunities; she knows that she can learn anything. Her preference is to find a full-time day shift job, but she is open to swing shift as well. She can’t wait to try new things and learn a new job!
