Joey is a US Army Veteran who is transitioning to the civilian workforce. Orion was brought to Joey’s attention by his case manager in the VA program. At Orion Joey is receiving training in the Office Skills and Customer Service Program. He really likes being able to learn the various Microsoft Office products in depth.
Being a veteran, sometimes it can be very difficult to be reoriented to a new work environment. Technology is where it is at now, and if you don’t have the skills you can be in the dark.

“Being a veteran, sometimes it can be very difficult to be reoriented to a new work environment,” Joey related. “Technology is where it is at now, and if you don’t have the skills you can be in the dark. My barrier was a lack of knowledge, but Orion is helping me to upgrade my knowledge and gain the skills that I need with the software and computer applications that are required in an administrative area.”
Joey’s experience in the Army was with a tank battalion, and he credits Orion’s staff with being able to help him identify the skills that are transferrable to civilian employment, and with identifying the areas that he needs to work on. Joey also has done bookkeeping and accounting work. While he has a strong foundation, he feels that updating his skills with the Microsoft products will add value to a skillset that he had considered to be outdated. His goal is to work in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster. With his automotive background, and his previous administrative experience, he feels like that job would be a perfect fit.
“Anyone who has a need of getting reestablished in the workforce, veterans or civilians as well, can get through Orion’s training programs because Orion has a supporting staff that will help you get through the program,” Joey explained. “I recommend that all veterans who have an opportunity to do so come to Orion Industries. They will help you be successful in your transition from veteran life into civilian life. Orion Industries is going to help you with that transition.”
