One of the things we do at Orion is find out what program participants like, and use that to determine the kind of work they might like to do. We asked Mechelle, and for her the answer was a no-brainer.
“I love Five Guys Burgers and Fries!”
So we worked with Mechelle to create a resume and practice interviewing and conversational skills. And we identified a number of potential employers in the community — but only one made the cut.
“We went to Five Guys to drop off a resume, and I was hired on the spot!” Mechelle exclaimed. “I get to do everything here! I chop up the lettuce, onions, potatoes, bacon, and other foods that will be used. I enjoy being part of the team and helping.”
Hired as a part-time food prep crew member, Mechelle learned her job in weeks and has since been given new tasks and responsibilities.
